Passed by voice vote.

Sarai Schnucker, Interim Executive Presbyter has this to say on the day’s proceedings:

We are overwhelmed by the grace and love that this Presbytery exhibited today. The members of the Presbytery have conducted themselves with respect and restraint, even while handling such a controversial issue. As a Presbytery we listened to each other and heard each other. In the midst of this time of debate and discernment, there was true worship by the body of Christ as we sang songs and broke bread together.

We are unaware of what might take place as a result of today, but we have come together as the Body of Christ and we are grateful for the presence of the Spirit with us. Thanks be to God.”

Valley Community Featured in Star Tribune Article

Valley Community Presbyterian in Golden Valley was featured in the January 19 edition of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.  The article, about pipe organs, talks about Valley's efforts to get a pipe organ, one formerly used by Oliver Presbyterian Church in North Minneapolis. (Oliver merged with Hope Presbyterian in Richfield last year.)  Richard Buller, the pastor at Valley says this about pipe organs:

"It's a wonderful addition to our church, and we're very blessed to have it...It's a beautiful instrument that looks as if it was meant to be there."

Scott Newman, the leader of Valley's praise band, who also happens to be a former church organist, believes there are many ways to sing a new song to the Lord:
"There are many different ways to spread the word of God... It's the same message delivered with a different vehicle."

Thanks to Stated Clerk Nancy Gritman, for pointing this out!

Kwanzaa Raises Its Voice in Song in the Fight Against AIDS

Last month, members and friends of Kwanzaa Presbyterian in North Minneapolis gathered to record a CD that would help bring awareness to the the threat of AIDS in the African American community.  Called "Love Songs For Those Infected and Affected by HIV/AIDS," the proceeds from the CD will go to help the church's outreach efforts to help prevent the disease.

The Twin Cities Weekly, City Pages, wrote a brief blog entry last month that you can view here. Below is a video showing Kwanzaa's choir and friends in action, singing the childhood tune,  "Jesus Loves Me."
